Ratings: American Idol Holds Steady in Demo

Those writing about the inexorably declining ratings of American Idol will have to stand down for at least a day as the amateur talent competition stayed even with last week in the industry-prized 18-to-49 demographic, according to preliminary Nielsen figures.

Now, we'll have to see if the cliff-hanger involving the hopeful who fainted and fell off the stage gooses the ratings for Fox. (By comparison, fair or not, NBC's The Voice grabbed 17.69 million viewers with a 6.6 demo rating Monday night on its first regularly scheduled airing.)

But then Beverly, having won Last Chance Kitchen, returned to the game and out-cooked him for a spot in the actual final four. "It is what it is. I don't hold a grudge. She won fair and square," Ed tells TVGuide.com. "I shouldn't have used the smoked oysters, so it was all on me." House: How Will It End?

The doctor is out. And while there isn't exactly huge outrage over House's cancellation (more than 70 percent of TVGuide.com voters agreed it was time to pull the plug on Hugh Laurie's curmudgeonly genius), many die-hard fans are left pondering just what sort of ending creator David Shore and his team will come up with.

House pulls the plug after eight seasons

"It's not going to be an unceremonious finish, I can tell you that," Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said during the Television Critics Association winter previews, when he acknowledged that he was talking with the show's creative crew about potentially wrapping things up. "It will absolutely have a satisfying conclusion. ... I can guarantee you there's no way David Shore is going to have the fans feel like it wasn't properly capped off."
